C. Robert Wetzel
Professor of Ethics and
Philosophical Theology
Robert Wetzel brings
to the presidency a long record of distinguished service in
Christian higher education. As Emmanuel’s Dean, his academic
leadership was efficient and careful, with unfailing sensitivity
to the needs of students and faculty. As initial Director of the
Doctor of Ministry degree program, he skillfully supervised all
aspects of the final planning, accreditation, and actual start of
classes. Before coming to Emmanuel, Dr. Wetzel was instrumental in
the founding of Springdale College within the Federation of Selly
Oak Colleges in Birmingham, England, and from 1980 to 1991 was
Principal of this ministerial training school for the Churches of
Christ in Great Britain. He was Academic Dean of Milligan College
from 1970 to 1976.
A graduate of Midwest
(now Ozark) Christian College (B.A.) and Fort Hays Kansas State
College (M.S.), he earned the Ph.D. in philosophy and literature
at the University of Nebraska. He did sabbatical study at the
University of Cambridge in 1975. Dr. Wetzel was Recognized
Lecturer in the University of Birmingham (England) from 1980–1991;
he taught philosophy and humanities at Milligan College from 1961
to 1980. He has published numerous essays and articles in both
popular and scholarly sources.
Dr. Wetzel is serving as president
of the World Convention (Christian-Churches of Christ-Disciples)
for the 2004-2008 term leading up to the 2008 World Convention
that meets in Nashville, TN, July 30-August 3.
Dr. Wetzel and his
wife Bonnie are parents of two adult children.
