Teresa D. Welch
Assistant
Professor of Christian Education
and Director of Institutional
Research
Dr. Teresa
Welch will be joining the faculty of Emmanuel School of Religion
in the fall of 2008. Dr. Welch brings fifteen years of located
ministry experience to her new role as Assistant Professor of
Christian Education and Director of Institutional Research.
Children’s ministry has been Teresa’s primary role and passion,
however, during her fifteen years in ministry she has combined
this role with service as a music/worship minister, church
administrator, and women’s minister. While rarely mentioned in
seminary classrooms, Teresa has also served as a church camp
dean, coached a Bible Bowl team, driven for seniors’ ministry
field trips and even assisted with church custodial duties.
Teresa enjoys teaching individuals of all ages and has written
curriculum for children’s ministry, adult small groups, and
women’s Bible studies.
Dr. Welch’s
passion is to help educate people of every age to know God, so
that they might love Him and follow Him. This was clearly seen
in her final Doctor of Ministry project, Leading a Child to
Christ, which created a curriculum for older elementary
children and parents, to assist in educating children, so they
might live a life of faith.
Teresa Welch
returns to Emmanuel after graduating from the school in May 2007
with a Doctor of Ministry. Teresa holds a Bachelor of Christian
Education from Ozark Christian College, a Master of Arts in
Christian Ministries with an emphasis in Youth and Family from
the graduate school of Malone College, and a Master of Divinity
from Lincoln Christian Seminary. Though she has had many
mentors from these institutions, Teresa acknowledges that her
biblical education began first in the home and then during her
childhood at the First Christian Church in Monmouth, Illinois
and is grateful to women like Margaret “Shorty” Allen and the
late Wanda Grabowski who helped her fall in love with Jesus.
Teresa has a deep respect for those who serve in the local
church and is extremely grateful for the churches in Ohio and
Illinois that have helped her grow as a teacher.
Dr. Welch comes
from a family of educators. Her father Lyle will soon retire
from his position as Department Chair in Mathematics from
Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois. Her brother Doug is a
professor at Ozark Christian College. Teresa’s family is
completed by her mother Judy, a senior bank accountant and
volunteer church financial secretary, and a younger brother
Kyle, a student at Ozark Christian College.
Teresa will
continue to serve as an adjunct instructor in the area of
Children’s Ministries at Ozark Christian College. She is also a
popular speaker and lecturer to various groups and churches.
Dr. Welch’s interest also includes music, as she has served as
a worship accompanist, choir director and vocalist. Teresa is
learning the game of golf and enjoys activity and fitness.
Dr. Welch is
humbled to be following in the footsteps of her mentor, Dr.
Eleanor Daniel. She is excited to bring her experiences to the
classroom as she assists students in being able to design
educational models for their future areas of ministry, whether
they will be serving in church pastoral, cross-cultural or
campus ministries.
