The Cross of the Risen
Lord
The 15-foot
tall Cross of the Risen Lord, a sculpture in bronze, was installed
October 23, 2000, at Emmanuel School of Religion. The sculpture is
the focal point of Emmanuel’s new student housing facility named
The Emmanuel Village.
The artwork was
commissioned to be a visible symbol of the mission and purpose of
The Emmanuel Village and Emmanuel School of Religion. The plaque
naming the cross bears the inscription of Mark 16:6: “He has
risen! He is not here.” The cross is a gift to the Seminary from
Capt. A.W. Newhall of Phoenix, Arizona, in honor of his wife,
Penny Newhall, and in memory of Mrs. Elaine S. Newhall, Mrs.
Kathryn G. Newhall, David W. Newhall, and in honor of Charles Eric
and Deborah Newhall.
The Cross of the
Risen Lord was designed and sculpted by Randall Secrest of
Phoenix, Arizona.
The cross has a
9-foot span. It stands atop a stepped pedestal in the middle of
Phyllis’s Green in The Emmanuel Village. The pedestal is made of
stone that matches the stone of the cottages in the Village.
