Frequently Asked Questions about Enrolling at Emmanuel

  • How many hours/how long is the MDiv/MAR degree?

Emmanuel’s Master of Divinity degree requires 90 semester hours, inclusive of three hours credit for the Senior Project/Thesis. Although this is a three-year degree program, it is not unusual for a student in ministry to take four years to complete the Master of Divinity.

The Master of Arts in Religion is a 58 semester hour degree that is designed to be completed in two years. It is not unusual for a student in ministry to take three years to complete the Master of Arts in Religion.

  • Are there scholarships available?

Yes! In fact, Emmanuel has a rather large number of Half Tuition Scholarships available to qualified students from the Stone-Campbell heritage. There are a more limited number of full tuition scholarships awarded each year. For a more definitive answer to this question, call David Fulks, the Director of Admissions, (1-800-933-3771).

  • How much does your school cost per semester?

Tuition at Emmanuel for the 2006-07 Academic Year is $300 per semester hour. Fees for full time first year students will be approximately $470. Required books average approximately $90 per three-semester hour class.

  • Do you have student housing?

Yes! The Emmanuel Village, Emmanuel’s student housing complex, presently consists of 22 two-bedroom apartments and four three-bedroom apartments. These spacious apartments (1,100 sq ft) rent for $420 per month for families, or $187.50 each for two single students sharing a cottage. The cottages feature central heat and central air conditioning, as well as washer and dryer hookups. These townhouse apartments are built in quadraplexes. The 26 cottages were first occupied during the 2000-01 Academic Year. The Thompson Community Center will be the next phase of the Village.

  • How many students are enrolled?

Approximately 200 different students are enrolled in one or more classes each year. There were 156 students enrolled for the 2006 Fall semester.

  • What about student loans?

Good news and better news: First, the good news: Emmanuel participates in the Federal Stafford Student Loan and PLUS/Supplemental Loan programs.

Now, the better news: Most of our students are able to complete their studies without incurring debt. A little sacrifice, a lot of self-control, and a scholarship from Emmanuel should enable you to be FREE to serve the Lord wherever and whenever He calls you to serve.

  • With what church or denomination is your school affiliated?

Emmanuel School of Religion is affiliated with the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ. These churches are generally known for a strong commitment to Biblical preaching and teaching, passionate concern for people who do not know the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and heart felt compassion for people whose needs are severe. While approximately 85 percent of our students come to us from this fellowship of churches, students from other church groups find a warm welcome awaiting them at Emmanuel.

  • Is Emmanuel an accredited school?

Absolutely! Emmanuel holds full membership with the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (10 Summit Park Drive, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15275-1103: Telephone number 412-788-6505), as well as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4907: Telephone number 404-679-4501). These are the two most significant and most meaningful accrediting associations for seminaries.

  • Do you offer distance learning?

Distance learningEmmanuel Online! is progressing and has had two online courses available to date. We plan to have developed eight online courses by Spring 2011. Nearing the mid-stages of  the implementation process, Emmanuel Online! will ultimately be a campus-wide, wireless learning environment for a broad range of distance learners.
